Continuing the Fight to End FGM: Empowering Young Voices in Koinadugu

As part of our ongoing commitment beyond the global 16 Days of Activism Against Gender-Based Violence, Moving Women for Sustainable Development (MoWSuD-SL), in partnership with Her Future Foundation, has intensified its campaign in Koinadugu District through a series of robust school club engagements aimed at ending Female Genital Mutilation (FGM).

Building on the theme “Unite! Invest to Prevent Violence Against Women and Girls,” the initiative focuses on empowering schoolchildren with knowledge about their rights, health, and the importance of speaking out against harmful traditional practices that threaten their well-being and future.

During one of the school sessions, Regional Coordinator Kadiatu Bankola encouraged the children to become advocates for change within their schools and communities. She reminded them that every child deserves to grow up in safety, dignity, and equality — free from any form of violence or discrimination.

> “The movement to end FGM must start with education and awareness. When young people understand their rights, they become powerful voices for transformation,” said Ms. Bankola.

The campaign combines interactive discussions, storytelling, and creative activities to help students engage deeply with the message of gender equality and bodily autonomy. By creating safe and inclusive spaces for dialogue, the project not only raises awareness but also inspires the next generation to take active roles in protecting and promoting the rights of women and girls.

Moving Women for Sustainable Development (MoWSuD-SL)  remain steadfast in their mission to advance women’s rights and sustainable development — ensuring that every girl grows up free from FGM and gender-based violence.
